Kampala (Uganda), 7 October 2025 – The revival of the Gulu-Pakwach railway is a key undertaking for strengthening the Northern Corridor, the strategic axis that links Uganda with the port of Mombasa, South Sudan and the wider East African Community. The workshop brought together government officials, district administrations and development partners to discuss the findings of the feasibility study and align the next steps.
A railway line with five stations

Route of the railway from Gulu to Pakwach via the stations of Bwobo, Aparanga and Lolim.
The line connects the city of Gulu in northern Uganda through the stations of Bwobo, Aparanga and Lolim to Pakwach on Lake Albert. The railway is designed as a dual-use system, intended to carry both passenger and freight traffic and so substantially improve the connection of the northern districts to East Africa’s main transport routes.
Feasibility study delivered with partner Zagope and DOTT
The feasibility study was prepared jointly by INZAG, partner Zagope and DOTT Services Limited, and completed in September 2025. It analyses the technical and economic viability, identifies risks in construction and operation, and proposes corresponding mitigation measures. On this basis, the workshop allowed concrete options for the next project phase to be discussed with the Ugandan authorities.
Contributing to Vision 2040 and National Development Plan IV
The undertaking contributes directly to the goals of Uganda Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV). A modernised railway connection in north-western Uganda promises more reliable mobility for the population, lower logistics costs for the economy, and renewed momentum for regional integration, within Uganda and across the wider Northern Corridor.
INZAG thanks the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Uganda Railways Corporation, the district administrations represented and all development partners present for the constructive dialogue and the trust placed in this shared work.
